I'm Sam Blazey and this June I will be climbing my first of the "Seven Summits" when I head to Tanzania to take on Mount Kilimanjaro. In addition to climbing the highest peak in Africa, I am also raising money to support the nonprofit organization Tanzania Development Support (TDS) that works to improve the quality of life for children in the Mara region of Tanzania. One of the areas that TDS supports is access to clean water, which is something that I know a decent bit about. As a geologist for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, I work on quality issues pertaining to public drinking water. Although the Mara region borders the second largest fresh water lake in the world (Lake Victoria), access to safe drinking water is still a major issue. In fact, waterborne illness is one of the contributing factors to many children falling behind in school and ultimately dropping out.
In addition to supporting access to clean water, TDS also works with local organizations to improve access to education and educational resources. Education is something that has been important in my own life, and I am excited to be supporting children that don't have the same opportunities that we have in the US. That is why I have set a goal of raising $1,000 as part of my adventure to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Please help me reach my goal by making a donation to TDS today.
About the 2019 Kilimanjaro Climb -
Tanzania Development Support is proud to join Madaraka Neyerere (youngest son of the first president of Tanzania, Julius Nyerere) for a second time and ascend to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in the name of supporting education in the Mara region of Tanzania. Now that the Library and Community Resource Center (LCRC) has been constructed and outfitted with thousands of textbooks and general circulation books that are published in Swahili, we are working towards elevating the facility to a true 21st century center for learning. We have set an ambitious goal of raising $75,000 for the 2019 Kilimanjaro Climb, which will be used to fund the following:
Technology – Computers and tablets that students will be able to use for assignments and research, and teachers will be able to use for professional development and improved teaching methods.
Equipment – Furnishing the LCRC Kids' Section so pre-primary children in the surrounding villages have an opportunity to begin their education earlier than ever.
Personnel – Hiring and training staff to manage the vast collection of textbooks and general circulation books in Swahili, recruit community volunteers and students to participate in library clubs, and help educate adults on how to access websites and books about agriculture, business, and much more.
Thank you for considering making a donation to help me reach my personal fundraising goal on the 2019 Kilimanjaro Climb.
