Tanzania Development Support is excited to be hosting its 4th Adventure Fundraiser! Volunteers will ascend to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness and funding for various projects that will improve education for girls and boys in the Mara Region. Learn more about the projects below!

Willmann Scholarship Fund:

In 2018, TDS launched the Rose and Karl Willmann Scholarship Fund to support high-achieving girls in their pursuit of a quality education. Willmann Scholars are girls that come from low-income households and graduated at the top of their class. Qualifying girls are also interviewed by a panel of community leaders to determine character and motivation. If selected, girls are provided with a full scholarship to attend Nyegina Secondary School, a private boarding school with full science labs, a modern girl's dormitory, and the Madaraka Nyerere Library & Community Resource Center.

The Madaraka Nyerere Library and Community Resource Center (LCRC) was envisioned by community leaders in the Mara region as a "kituo cha maarifa" ("center for learning") for the villages in the Rural Musoma area and a place for educational innovation. The facility is filled with thousands of books that were carefully curated to benefit all ages and interests and most recently received 30 computers that were built and installed by students in Nyegina! Thanks to the support of our generous donors and expertise of our local partners, the LCRC boasts the largest collection of books written by African authors in Swahili of any private community library in the country!

4H Career Pathways:

Through a partnership with Education Systems Center at Northern Illinois University and 4H Tanzania, the 4H Career Pathways program supports extracurricular clubs at the primary and secondary school levels. This program engages students in the practical application of classroom theory, as well as building life skills (self-reliance and self-discipline) that students carry forward after their academic career. In addition to building various competencies and skills, the 4HCP program also engages students in career exploration and development of a personal plan to accomplish their self-identified career pathway.
